This program is supported by LHLI through funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) from 2021 to 2025. In Tanzania, the resources are received through MKUTA and channeled to MUKIKUTE for implementation.
Community TB Care Project focuses on reducing the burden of tuberculosis through community-based interventions led largely by former TB patients organized in TB clubs. In 2023, the project operated across seven TB clubs in Temeke, Dar es Salaam, engaging over 200 community members and volunteers.
Key achievements included strong governance through regular executive and general meetings, sustained staffing and close collaboration with government stakeholders.
The project reached people with TB education, conducted extensive TB screening and referrals, and contributed significantly to TB case notification across all quarters of the year.
Economic empowerment initiatives (IGAs) such as soap-making, motorbike businesses, and small shops supported TB-affected members.
Awareness activities through cultural performances and national health commemorations (TB Day, Women’s Day, AIDS Day) further strengthened community engagement.
Overall, the report shows improved performance in 2023 compared to 2022, demonstrating MUKIKUTE’s growing impact in community TB prevention, detection, and support with funding from LHL International.
