Improving access to quality TB services and the lives of drug users in the Tanga and Morogoro regions of Tanzania- DAHW/BMZ project

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health challenge in Tanzania, with an estimated incidence of 237 cases per 100,000 population and more than 62,000 cases undiagnosed or unreported annually. People who use drugs (PWUD) are disproportionately affected, with TB incidence estimated to be 12 times higher than in the general population due to factors such as HIV co-infection, homelessness, incarceration, poor nutrition, stigma, and criminalization of drug use.

Community based Harm Reduction Program for People who Inject Drugs – ViiV Healthcare Positive Action

Drug use has remained a major driver for HIV transmission among people who inject drugs (PWUD) in Tanzania with visible scenes of high risk sexual and injection behavior. PWUD are challenged by socio cultural determinants that limit their access to comprehensive harm reduction services. Police harassment and incarceration, stigma and discrimination, punitive drug policies, gender based violence, emerging medical emergencies (COVID 19) are major concerns.

NIWEZESHE – Empowered – US EMBASSY AFHR23

With funding from the US Embassy Ambassadors Fund for HIV Relief, MUKIKUTE implemented NIWEZESHE Project focused on addressing the structural gender inequalities, stigma, and economic vulnerabilities that disproportionately affect adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), female sex workers (FSW), and other key and priority populations (KPs and PPs) living with HIV in Kigamboni municipality Tanzania.

Community TB Care – LHLI

This program is supported by LHLI through funding from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) from 2021 to 2025. In Tanzania, the resources are received through MKUTA and channeled to MUKIKUTE for implementation.
